Cassie was pacing up and down the room, hands firmly planted on her hips. "Is he out of his mind? What kind of lame excuse is this?" she fumed. "He can't handle having a baby? Why is he bringing this up now? Not long ago, he was treating this baby like it was the most precious thing in the world, not even letting us get close to you!"

"Has he completely lost it? The baby's five months along and healthy, and now he suddenly decides he doesn't want it? Does he think life is just a game?" Cassie was on a roll, but eventually, her anger started to simmer down.

After a pause, she spoke again, this time with a hint of suspicion. "Do you think something's going on with him? Under normal circumstances, he'd never say something like that. Maybe there's something he can't talk about."

Chloe let out a big sigh, "I feel the same way, but it doesn't stop me from being mad."

No matter the reason, Chloe couldn't accept him wanting to abandon their child. Cassie was right. The baby was already five months old, a little life all on its own. You don't just walk away from that. No matter what came their way, Chloe was determined not to give up on this life.

a fan of romance novels and over-the-top dramas. Chloe shot her a glare. "Don't be a jinx. That's not happening."

Cassie shrugged, hoping she was wrong too. "But I can't think of any other reason,” she admitted, scratching her head.

Even though Chloe didn't buy into it, Cassie's theory left her feeling unsettled. She remembered howè Connor had been diving into articles on rare diseases lately. And every time she peeked into his study, his computer was filled with medical journals. Plus, she'd overheard him dropping medical jargon during calls.
