Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 928

Watching the little one munching on their toes, Connor felt his heart ache multiply tenfold, maybe even a hundredfold. When Chloe returned from the Shaw family's place, she was still in a foul mood. Everyone was surprised to see her back so

soon.

Since tying the knot, Cassie had been living at the Shaw's. Tonight, she had set up a card game there, and the room buzzed with lively chatter and laughter. When Chloe walked in, everyone was thrilled and invited her to join the fun. But Chloe turned them down, saying she needed some alone time. Immediately, everyone sensed something was off, exchanging worried looks.

Winston was the first to break the silence, "Chloe's a bit off today. She looks upset."

Wayne jumped in, "And she came back by herself. Did Connor do something to upset her?"

Isaac waved his hand dismissively. "The whole world could annoy her, but

Connor? Not a chance. You guys haven't seen how he is around her completely smitten."

Isaac worked closely with Connor, so they were often in each other's company.

"So, what's eating Chloe?" Kash stood up, offering, "I'll go chat with her."

Wayne and Isaac also got up, but Cassie stopped them, "I'll handle it."

Everybody knew Cassie and Chloe had been best friends since they were kids, so she was the perfect person for the task.

Cassie made her way to Chloe's room, giving the door a gentle knock. It opened quickly, and she stepped inside to find Chloe sitting in the dark. Concern etched across Cassie's face as she switched on the light and moved closer to Chloe. Squatting down to look her friend in the eye, she asked, "Have you been crying?"

Cassie knew Chloe rarely cried. Truth was, Chloe hadn't shed any tears; her eyes were just red from eating spicy food and the frustration bubbling from her last run- in with Connor.

Chloe turned away, feeling both angry and restless. She headed to the liquor cabinet, thinking of pouring herself a glass of wine, but then remembered she couldn't drink. Instead, she poured herself @glass of warm water and finally said, "I wasn't crying, just mad."

ět

Hearing Chloe speak, Cassie felt a small wave of relief. She flopped down on the couch, draping her arm

over the back and crossing her legs. "You two fighting again?"

Cassie had seen this before. The last time Chloe and Connor had a big blow-up, Chloe left home, and she was in a similar state afterward.

Cassie huffed, "Connor's something else, isn't he? Knowing you're pregnant, and he still picks a fight."

Chloe kept quiet.

Cassie uncrossed her legs, reached for an orange from the fruit bowl on the table, and started peeling it. "So, what's it about this time?"

Chloe felt a lump in her throat, the words almost spilling out, "He doesn't want the baby anymore?"

Cassie's hands froze mid-peel, then she slammed the orange onto the table, squashing it in her anger.

"What did he say?" Cassie's reaction, even more intense than her own, somehow eased the knot in Chloe's chest.

Cassie jumped up, demanding, "Why? Why doesn't he want the baby?"

Chloe sighed, "He says he's not ready to be a dad. The thought of the child growing makes himnoveldrama

anxious. He's got some past issues, and he wants me to love only him for the rest of my life."

"That's ridiculous!" Cassie was fuming. "How can he say such things?"
