Chapter 195
Tiffany paused.
Eric went on, "The reason I didn't call her is because of her pregnancy. She can't be stressed. I'm out of options here. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother you." Though Eric spoke no truth, his words rang sincere.
Considering Teresa, Tiffany asked, "Where are you?"
"At the Eastville Station. And remember, bring me something to eat," he said hastily before hanging up.
Suspicious but swayed by thoughts of Teresa, Tiffany bought some bread from a nearby bakery. Then she took a taxi to Eastville Station.
Eric's clothes were tattered clothes, his face unshaven and unkempt. Had he not called out, she wouldn't have recognized him.
As soon as he saw her, Eric asked, "Where's the food?"
Tiffany had just taken out the bread when he snatched them away. Frantically ripping open the packaging, he shoved them into his mouth. His actions resembled those of a barbarian.
Tiffany frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Between bites, Eric's eyes darted around nervously. "They're after me!"
"Who?"
"The men from the illegal gambling ring."
"Illegal gambling ring?" Alarm bells rang in Tiffany's head. "Did you gamble?"
"Shh!" Eric looked around in panic before lowering his voice. "Tiff, do you have any money? Lend me some. I need to lay low out of town." Instead of answering, Tiffany asked, "How much did you lose?"
"Two million."
Tiffany gasped. "Two million?"
Even working for several lifetimes, an ordinary employee like Eric could never earn back that much. Had he gone mad?
Eric glanced at her indifferently. "Do
you think I wanted this? With my meager salary, how could I afford
the mortgage and support your sister was winning at first, but my luck turned. After a couple of bad rounds, I suddenly owe that much money...
"And if you hadn't stood up William at the last minute, I would've resolved this crisis long ago. He had promised a one million contract, plus another one million in cas after you married him. In the end, it's all your fault!"
Eric couldn't understand what Tiffany was thinking. With the Lewis family offering such good terms, she would live a life in luxury.
William didn't mind her carrying another man's child. He still wanted to marry her. Yet she refused the opportunity.
If it were him, he would've married William in a heartbeat!
Eric's crude remarks always left a
bitter taste in Tiffany's mouth. She said coldly, "If I were to marry in the future, I'd only choose an ordinary man. That way, you couldn't take
advantage of me."
Eric was the type to easily lose millions without a care. He was careless with money even though he didn't have much.
Besides, before she and William were even an item, Eric was already a cunning schemer.
If she married into the Lewis family, she might never be rid of Eric in this lifetime.
Eric rubbed his nose awkwardly. "Do you have any cash? Give me some."
"I don't," Tiffany replied flatly. "You got yourself into this mess, so you figure it out."
She turned to leave a second later.
Suddenly, several men rushed over from the side. They ran past Tiffany like lightning. "Eric, don't run!"
Chaos erupted in the station as the men, coming from everywhere, trapped Eric.novelbin
Outnumbered and surrounded, Eric didn't make it far. A burly man violently tackled him to the ground.
He was swiftly apprehended and hauled out of the station.
Tiffany watched the whole scene unfold, her heart pounding. But her concern wasn't for Eric; it was for Teresa.
If something happened to Eric, what would become of Teresa?
