Chapter 0252
Liam POV
As Lottie drove quickly down the lanes, I closed my eyes, my stomach lurching with every sharp turn.
"I can't believe you let her drive." V hissed, and I had to agree; it had been a little reckless on my behalf.
"Yeah, my bad." I muttered, hating that he was right, as I would never live this down.
"Not only is she driving like a lunatic, she is pregnant. I thought pregnant females were meant to be calmer and careful." V continued to growl out in frustration.
"Her mate is in trouble." I reminded him, "What would you do if.."
"Nothing, I would do nothing," V corrected me, a lie we both knew. V was insanely protective.
"What the.." I barked when suddenly, I heard a clunk. My eyes snapped open, and I twisted around to see she scraped the car against what looked like a fence through the side mirror. But she was going too fast for me to be sure. "You are insane!" I groaned as I span to glare at her; she met my gaze with a grin, offering a carefree,
"Don't blame her for your stupid decision to let her drive." V reprimanded me, a smile tweaking my lips.
"Oops, I'll pay for that." I wanted to be furious, to scold her for her recklessness, but her smile-radiating a sense of freedom and sheer enjoyment of the moment-softened my irritation.
"Damn right, you will," I informed her, trying to sound stern and authoritative, but she simply chuckled in response.
"You know I am technically poor, right?" She sassed, her lips curling.
"You, sister, are not poor. You are a dreadful driver, yes, but not poor." I winked as we emerged into the small town from the tangle of country lanes.
"We are here?" I asked, shocked by how quickly we had made it. The pace she set may have been frantic, but fuck was it effective.
"Where abouts are you both?" I asked as I mind-linked Chase and Adam, wanting to check their progress more out of curiosity than anything.
"In France, where do you think?" Adam complained, his tone laced with sarcasm and irritation.
"Funny!" I groaned, rolling my eyes at my dickhead of a brother.
"About twenty minutes away, how is she?" Chase responded cooly, and I could almost hear Adam's brow furrowing with suspicion and anger through the link.
"Why?" Adam demanded, his voice tinged with a warning edge that suggested he wasn't just curious but concerned about what we might be up to. Glancing at Lottie as we approached the bar, I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. "They are going to be livid." I whined to V, who snorted in approval.
"We're pulling up to the club," I told them reluctantly.
"Who's 'we'?" Adam pressed, his tone sharp. It was clear they had pieced it together.
"Lottie? How? Did you teleport or something?" Chase, incredulous and sounding annoyed, cut in. Looking over at Lottie, who was practically buzzing with mischievous energy.
"Something like that." I smirked and
replied, deciding whatever
happened, this was worth it. As
Lottie threw the car onto the curb, k
winced, bearing the crunch of
hubcaps. She was out the doset
nonovelbin
in a
flash already waddling up to the front of the line at the club. Watching her argue with the bouncer, a proud smile spread
across my face. She was feisty, stubborn, and completely
unstoppable.
"We are going in," I announced through the mindlink, firm and decisive. Before they could bombard me with objections, I cut off the connection, silencing any further reprimands. Ready or not, we were about to shake things up.
"Mother fucker." I moaned as I got
out of the car and looked at it with a deep frown The scratches from the fence glared in the dim streetlight, and the dented hubcaps gave it a battered look. It would definitely need a paint job and a bit of PLC after tonight. She had parked right outside the club, close to the queue.
"She could have killed someone with the way she parked." I muttered to V, who was surprisingly quiet. Shaking my head, I walked over to Lottie, who was pleading with the doorman to let her in. "No way," he was saying, eyeing her bulging belly. "It's not safe for you in there. There's trouble inside."
"There will be trouble here if you do not let me into my.." she started to yell as I approached.
"Hey, Jerry." I greeted the underpaid doorman while pressing my hand to Lottie's back. Jerry's eyes met mine, and his demeanour shifted instantly, a mix of surprise and deference washing over his face.
"Sir, hi, I am sorry." He spluttered; he clearly hadn't expected to see someone like me-a recognized figure in the werewolf community who was treated somewhat like royalty due to my status.
"Are you two together?" he asked, his gaze flicking between Lottie's belly and me. "I am sorry man I didn't know." He explained, panic eating at his features as he held his hand up defensively. Lottie laughed, and I couldn't help but blush, quickly correcting him. "No, she's my sister." I started it with a sense of pride and excitement, realising I didn't get to say it often enough. "And we are here to remove the trouble you just mentioned," I added with a sympathetic smile at Lottie.
"He is my.."
"Friend." I chimed in, squeezing Lottie's hip while nodding for him to let us in.
"Right this way, sir, ma'am." he expressed, stepping aside to let us through. Holding back a moment, I met Lottie's pained eyes and knew she hadn't liked me dismissing her relationship or past relationship with Knox aside.
"I didn't do it to hurt you but to protect you. The Maddox brothers are not well-liked right now, and those pups are good leverage for someone wanting to hurt them. Ok?" I nodded, watching her face for the questions I knew she was about to ask.
"Ok." Her only answer as she flicked her eyes to the door and the waiting doorman.
"Well, that was easy." V laughed, making me wince. He was right; it was easy-a little TOO easy. As we entered the club, the chaos was palpable. Smashed tables, chairs tossed aside, a few patrons nursing injuries with bloodied napkins-it was clear a significant brawl had taken place.
Amid the commotion, at the centre of the bar on the floor lay a very unconscious, battered, and bruised Knox. Someone hovered over him, declaring to those who looked tempted to land a few more blows,
"He's Alpha Maddox's son! Are you suicidal?" The murmur of the crowd shifted to nervous whispers, their earlier aggression cooling as they processed the implications.
"In the flesh fuckers." Knox muttered,
his eyes slowly drifted open, the eerie red gleam of his inner beast, Havoc, flickering to life. Beside me Lottie sucked in a breath, her body tensing as she slowly stepped
toward him. The tension in the air thickened, a mix of fear and anticipation hanging heavy as she moved closer to the fallen werewolf and once love of her life.
