Chapter 482 Unexpected Relationship
Under the dim lighting, the clinking of high-end silverware against the plates was particularly clear. Archibald stared at the shimmering silver, his mind in turmoil. After a moment of contemplation, he decided to tell Candice.
For some reason, even though none of this concerned him, he felt compelled to explain the situation to the woman in front of him, as if he had done something wrong.
Would that be badmouthing Michael if he spilled everything?
"Come on, Archibald, is there some misunderstanding between you two?" Candice leaned in, pressing Archibald for answers.
She was usually polite and considerate of Archibald's feelings, but right now, she was clearly more concerned about Michael.
What was his situation? Who else was involved? And what secrets were hidden between them?
"It's like this, Candice." Archibald finally spoke after what felt like an eternity, noticing that the half-bowl of cream of mushroom soup in front of Candice had already gone cold. His eyes still darted around nervously.
"I have a good friend who is... Michael's ex-wife."
"Ex-wife?" Candice was taken aback. Though her expression didn't change much, her hand trembled slightly, and her lips parted in surprise. Clearly, the news of Michael's divorce had shaken her.
Archibald felt this was something Candice needed to accept. So, he
continued, "They've been divorced for a while, but my friend is still pregnant with Michael's child."
"What?" Candice couldn't hold back her shock. She stood up abruptly, her eyes wide and fixed on Archibald, making him feel deeply uncomfortable.
Was he tattling?
As Emily's suitor, he could have kept this to himself, letting Candice pursue Michael, even offering her free advice. That would have made his pursuit of Emily much easier.noveldrama
But Archibald wasn't that kind of person. He had shared a meal with Candice, and felt it was only right to be honest with her.
"They're divorced? Why did your friend divorce him? Whose fault was it? Why divorce if there's a child involved? How is this possible? Michael seems so perfect, I don't believe it!"
Candice bombarded him with questions, unable to calm down. She was on the verge of a breakdown; Michael was the person she had dreamed of meeting.
Archibald took a deep breath. Honestly, he didn't know how to answer Candice's barrage of questions.
"I don't know much, Candice. I just thought, since we have the chance to sit down for a meal, I should tell you what I can, so you won't be deceived.
"Their issues are complicated, but rest assured, they won't reconcile. If you want, you can still try, I..."
Before Archibald could finish, Candice interrupted him. "How could I accept that?"
Candice's demeanor changed drastically, losing her previous gentleness and becoming cold and harsh. "I'll handle this. What's mine is mine, and what's not, there's no point in forcing."
The atmosphere fell silent.
Archibald occasionally glanced at Candice, who seemed lost in thought, her eyes showing a newfound determination.
The meal had started well but ended poorly. Candice stood up, elegantly adjusted her clothes, exchanged a few polite words with Archibald, and then made an excuse to leave. It was a flimsy, unconvincing excuse.
Archibald watched Candice's silhouette until she disappeared through the restaurant door, feeling a heavy weight in his heart. He realized he might have unintentionally hurt Candice's feelings and caused trouble for Michael and Emily.
If it were just Michael, it wouldn't matter. But Emily...
Archibald suddenly felt he had made a mistake. Reflecting on Candice's resolute departure, his emotions were a mix of regret and confusion.
The next morning
Emily woke up early as usual, planning to make empanadas for Abigail. But when she checked Abigail's room, she found out Abigail hadn't come home after working late. She quickly called Abigail to make sure she was okay, and only then did she relax.
With just herself at home, there wasn't much to do. Emily ordered some pregnancy- friendly takeout. She didn't have much appetite, but thinking of the baby, Harry, she forced herself to eat a little to avoid any harm to the fetus.
Her due date was approaching. Emily's morning sickness had eased, but she still felt occasional discomfort. She stuck to vegetarian food and was generally in a low mood due to the recent events.

Especially after last night's incident, Emily felt incredibly unlucky.
"Sir? Are you okay? Sir, wake up!"
About half an hour later, Emily, who had dozed off on the couch, was awakened by a faint voice outside the door. She supported her belly and walked over slowly. When she opened the door, her face showed surprise.
It was the delivery guy who had found a man passed out drunk at her doorstep. He
was trying to wake the man up to prevent him from getting sick.
If something happened to the man, who would take responsibility? If there were surveillance cameras around, wouldn't he be seen as neglecting someone in need? This thought make the delivery guy uneasy, so he didn't leave.
Seeing the man was Michael, Emily's heart tightened. She couldn't believe he had stayed all night! It had been so cold, and she had even heard the wind howling in her dreams.
What was he doing?
Michael's face was pale, his lips purple, his fingers stiffly clutching his sleeves, his whole body tense. Emily felt a deep sadness, as if she could feel his cold and pain.
It made her heart ache.
"Excuse me, could you help me bring him inside? I'm not in a position to do it myself." The delivery guy saw Emily's pregnant belly and her distressed expression and immediately agreed. He carefully helped Michael inside, placed the food down, and quickly left, not wanting to get involved in any more trouble.
