Chapter 471 Meeting Again
Hayden turned and walked away, his steps light and brisk. He had completed the task Veda had given him, and it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
Sophia watched him leave, her hatred growing stronger by the second.
She couldn't understand how Hayden could be so heartless, even going so far as to sever their father-daughter relationship to force her to leave the country.
The more she thought about it, the colder she felt inside.
She started to realize that Hayden couldn't have come up with this on his own. Someone must be behind it. But who could it be? Could it be his eldest daughter, Emily, who was about to give birth?
The more she thought about it, the more stifled she felt. Her brows furrowed, and anger filled her mind, impossible to extinguish.
Even though she had agreed to Hayden's demands, she would never give up so easily.
There had to be another way. There had to be.
Michael had just dropped Emily off at home and was about to leave, not wanting to upset her and disturb her rest.
But to his surprise, Emily called out to him. "Thanks for bringing me back."
On the way back, Emily had been thinking about how to thank Michael. If it weren't for his help, she would still be stuck in the Lancaster family's mess.
This was her weakness, and Emily had always known it.
She was too soft-hearted, and it was this trait that had led her to this point, causing her mother to suffer as well. Thinking about it made Emily feel terrible.
She had tried to overcome this flaw. However, it was hard to change one's nature. Every time someone asked for her help, her soft heart always won out.
She contined, "If it weren't for you earlier, I wouldn't have known how to refuse the Lancaster family.
"After all, Archibald is a good business partner, and Celeste is well-respected in the business world. Offending her would make my future difficult."
Michael sighed softly, his gaze gentle. He looked at Emily and gave her a doting smile.
"You don't need to blame yourself too much. Being soft-hearted has its downsides, but it also means you're kind."
"I didn't understand your goodness before and listened to others' slander, causing you to suffer."
The atmosphere suddenly left her with an indescribable feeling.
Michael's words warmed Emily's heart, her eyes reddening. Thinking back on the past three years, she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
The grievances she had endured flooded her mind like a tide.
With Michael's words, Emily suddenly felt like everything could be left behind.
But just then, as their awkward relationship began to ease a bit, Michael's phone rang. It was a call from Sophia!
Michael instinctively looked at Emily. She seemed to sense something, biting her lip, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. She then said, "Go ahead and take the call."
Michael did want to hear what Sophia had to say.
If this malicious woman had any sense, she would understand that her actions had already crossed the legal line. She should turn herself in and stay away from everyone in Emerald City.
"Hello?"
Michael stepped onto the balcony and closed the door, answering the call with a tone that was both unfriendly and impatient.
Sophia knew how much Michael despised her now.
But she was betting on the chance that Michael still had some lingering feelings for her and would be willing to meet her.
Once they met, she could manipulate the situation. If she had managed to deceive Michael once, Sophia believed she could do it again. He was her only leverage to stay in Emerald City, and she was confident he would fall for her charms once more.

"I want to see you."
Seeing that Michael wasn't as easily fooled as before, Sophia quickly changed her strategy and made her request directly.
Michael couldn't help but laugh coldly. "Where else can we meet besides the police station?"
Sophia's heart sank, but she forced herself to stay calm and spoke softly. "Let's meet. There are some things that can't be explained over the phone.
"Michael, are you really a man? Are you afraid to see me? I do have something to say, and it's about Emily. I think we need to settle things between us."
Mentioning other matters might not interest Michael, but bringing up Emily did.noveldrama
He wanted Sophia to pay for her misdeeds and give Emily the closure she deserved. "Fine. Where are you?"
When Michael came back from the balcony, he saw Emily sitting on the couch, waiting for him. After he hung up the phone, Emily stood up, giving him a gentle but somewhat distant and polite smile.
Michael suddenly realized that he had a responsibility to cut ties with Sophia and make her take responsibility for what she had done to Emily. Otherwise, this issue would always be a thorn between them.
"I have to go. There's some work at the office that needs my attention."
But Michael lied to Emily.
He couldn't look her in the eye, nor could he tell her that the call was from Sophia. He was afraid Emily would misunderstand, so he quickly put on his shoes and left. Emily, holding her belly, watched Michael leave.

A woman's intuition is incredibly sharp, especially after being married to that man for three years.
Emily knew Michael was lying.
But she didn't know why he lied.
Emily knew that Andrew usually informed Michael about work matters.
If it had been Andrew calling, why would Michael need to take the call in private?
Before their divorce, there was no need to avoid her, so why now? Yes, they were divorced.
Suddenly, Emily remembered this fact, and a wave of bitterness washed over her.
Since they were divorced, why should she care so much about Michael? It was none of her business.
Sophia knew that if she suggested meeting at a hotel, Michael would be suspicious and wouldn't come.
So she chose a restaurant with private rooms.
She had been here once before with Dean.
It was hard for her to recall that date with Dean. They had been sweet, feeding each
other like a real couple.
But only Sophia knew it was all an illusion.
Dean was still a child. He needed the Lancaster family's support. In Emerald City, he could never protect her like a strong tree. But Michael was different.
Thinking about this, Sophia smiled bitterly and poured the wine she had prepared into the empty glass across from her.
What do you think?
