Chapter 235 Unexpected Incident
Emily asked, "I'm calling to ask about the address of the new place."
The initial response was a bit awkward.
But Emily had no idea that things were about to get even more awkward.
When she called Michael, he was already at Abigail's door. Seeing him in casual clothes and sneakers, Emily was so shocked she just stood there, frozen.
"What's the matter, Emily? Surprised? Didn't see that coming, huh?" Abigail teased while Emily was in the kitchen pouring water for Michael. "Now you can't say I'm just making stuff up. Just wait, Mr. Smith is just getting started!" Abigail's words were a bit cryptic, but Emily got the gist.
Still, Emily couldn't believe that Michael would like her. She brushed off those silly thoughts and focused on pouring water for Michael, then thanked him. "Thanks. Once things settle down, Abigail and I will treat you to dinner." Even though she was thanking him, Emily's tone was distant and polite.
This wasn't how a married couple should talk.
Michael hesitated, unsure how to respond. Luckily, Abigail jumped in to lighten the mood. "Mr. Smith, isn't the company busy today? Wait, isn't today Monday? Don't you have work? If people find out the boss came to help me move, they'll go nuts!"
After spending some time together recently, Abigail, who was pretty clear about her likes and dislikes, had warmed up to Michael, so their conversations flowed smoothly.
Abigail wasn't as cold to Michael as she used to be.
Michael smiled, "The CEO just needs to oversee things. I'm here today to help you move. I found this place for you, so I gotta see it through."
When did Michael become so responsible?
Emily felt a bit uneasy hearing him talk to Abigail like that.
She realized she was getting more and more unfamiliar with Michael, just like his sudden behavior today. In the past, he would've been indifferent to her actions.
They exchanged a few more words, and Michael started helping Emily move.
Today, he didn't have any CEO image, doing a lot of the work himself.
He kept saying, "I'm the only guy here," and took on many heavy and tiring tasks.
Most importantly, he had thoughtfully contacted a moving company in advance, arranging everything smoothly, leaving Emily and Abigail with little to do but hand over water and wipe sweat.
Michael's thoughtful and considerate actions earned him continuous praise from Abigail. "Emily, don't think I'm meddling. You used to think I was overthinking, and yeah, I thought so too. How could someone change so much suddenly? That's just TV drama stuff!"
"At first, I thought I had a rose-tinted view of Michael, but look now, he's so meticulous and considerate. Have you ever thought that he might have always been like this, just not showing it in front of you, and you just missed it?"
"I think you two might have some unspoken misunderstandings. It'd be better to sit down and talk it out when you have time. And... I know you still have feelings for him. You can fool everyone, but you can't fool me." Abigail's last words hit Emily right in the feels.
She knew Abigail wasn't just talking nonsense, nor was she speaking for Michael because she benefited today.
Abigail understood her the best and always had her back.
Abigail's words got Emily thinking, making her start to waver.
Maybe they really needed to have a good talk today to clear up the past misunderstandings, and only then could they get to a better place.
When they were getting ready to head to the new home, Emily took the chance to separate from Abigail and ride with Michael.novelbin
She smoothly got into the passenger seat, handed a bottle of water to Michael, and said, "Thank you a lot for today. Is it far to the new place? I'll chat with you so it won't be too boring on the way." Michael looked at Emily in surprise but took the bottle of water. "Actually, it's not very far."
Emily looked at Michael.
She saw Michael looking at her seriously and said, "You know that neighborhood, it's your favorite, near Emerald Lake Manor."
At that moment, Emily felt her heart melt with emotion. She stared at Michael, unable to say a word.
It was also at this moment that Emily realized, no matter how hard she tried to stay away from Michael, no matter how she intentionally or unintentionally avoided him, she could never deceive her own heart. She loved Michael, whether it was three years ago or now. Her gaze towards him was always tender, full of infatuation, and her heart felt as sweet as if it were filled with honey.
The new home was near Emerald Lake Manor.

Inside, the furniture was complete. In the spacious living room, there was a set of uniquely styled wooden furniture, and by the fireplace, there was a beautiful rose bush, giving it a very artistic feel. Looking up, there were also beautiful pendant lights, and the surroundings were decorated with checkered fabric, making it even more unique.
Emily felt a jolt in her heart, like a powerful current of emotion had surged through her.
Because that was her favorite furniture style, she seemed to have mentioned it to Michael before, and Michael actually remembered and had the house decorated in advance.
"This is so beautiful! Michael, how did you know this is the style we wanted? You and Emily are so in sync. She mentioned wanting to decorate the house like this before! Now it's all done, thanks to the kind guy behind the scenes!" Saying this, Abigail immediately ran to every corner of the house to admire it.
After her few hinting words, Emily felt at a loss again. She hurriedly walked towards the door, saying as she went, "I'll go get the stuff."
Michael was about to follow.
But suddenly, the crystal pendant light at the entrance loosened and fell just as Emily walked by.
Seeing this, Michael quickly ran over and shouted, "Emily, get out of the way!"
Then, a wave of dizziness hit Michael.
Emily shouted, "Michael!"
