Chapter Twenty-Four; Without Words
I don’t know what I had hoped for.
“The CEO called you in.”
Hearing that made me anxious and excited at the same time, so much so that I had left the amusement park without a second thought. I didn’t have time to feel guilty about leaving Caspian, I told him I needed to attend to something urgent, not waiting for a reply before I zoomed off.
But now, as I stood in front of his office, I developed cold feet, thinking of the different scenarios that could unfold once I entered. Would he kiss me? Say he missed me? Probably not. It was foolish to hope for such from a man like him, but still. I looked down at my wrists, pulling down the sleeve of my blouse to examine the bandage he’d used to bind my wounds.
My heart fluttered and tightened, an abnormal reaction that I had become accustomed to. Ever since I met him, my poor heart has been going on a frenzy. Knowing that he was on the other side of the door made me giddy for some reason.
My cheeks heated up as I remembered his carefree laughter, something I counted myself lucky to witness. What side of him will he show me today? I wanted to see him. I wanted to see him so bad. After days of silence, our paths would finally cross again. Was I wrong for feeling this way towards my boss? To want a man this way?
But I didn’t care because it wasn’t my fault. The deed has already been done, but I wouldn’t lie, I was beyond clueless, and that only fueled my anxiety.
How will our relationship go from here?
The answer was right in front of me, and yet my feet remained rooted in my spot. I fidgeted as I tried to open the door, reaching for it and pulling back at the last minute. I shook my head and straightened up, looking down at myself to make sure I looked presentable.
I frowned, my brows furrowing as I spotted a soda stain on my blouse. My frown deepened as my gaze trailed to my feet, and I scoffed at the dust that covered my boots. I smoothened my hands against my jeans, now feeling more insecure.
The outfit I once thought was cute now looked plain and boring. I fiddled with my low ponytail, checking for any loose strands. I heaved out a sigh of relief when there was none, squinting my eyes at the polished door that was so smooth I could see my reflection in it. I smiled big, showing my teeth as I checked if I had any traces of my lunch stuck between my teeth.
“Uhm Miss.”
I flinched, whipping my head to see his secretary standing behind me with a tight smile on her face. She appeared polite, but I knew she was judging me, I could tell from the way she eyed me from head to toe.
“He’s waiting for you.” She gestured towards the door and turned to leave, offering me a small bow before returning to her post.
Once she was gone, I bared my shoulders and lightly slapped my cheeks to stop myself from overthinking. It didn’t work.
“Get yourself together,” I muttered under my breath, mentally scolding myself for being such a pussy.
I straightened up a bit and held my head high, trying my best to appear composed as I finally stepped into the office.
I didn’t know what I was expecting. The moment the door clicked shut, I was cornered.
I gasped as my back pressed against the wall in an instant, so fast that it got me reeling. My reflexes kicked in and I raised my fists to deliver a punch, but my hands stilled in mid-air as the intoxicating scent of cinnamon and spice tickled my nostrils.
I froze in place, my eyes widening as I raised my gaze.
My heart stopped for a moment, and I felt my mouth go dry as my breath seized.
There he was, towering over me. The man that had continued to plague my mind. He pressed both of his hands against the wall, caging me in his embrace as he leaned close. He was so close, close enough for me to feel the warmth emanating from him.
I shrank under his intense glare, struggling to keep myself up as my knees weakened threatening to make me lose my footing. His heterochromatic eyes zeroed in on my form, his jaw ticking as he observed me with clear anger burning in his gaze.
He was angry- Seething with unfiltered rage. I gulped my spit as he tilted his head to the side, almost as if he was deciding what to do with me. I feared if he stared at me any longer I would dissipate into dust.
I met his gaze, wetting my bottom lip as goosebumps littered my skin. The way he looked at me, with his occasionally darting to my lips and tracing the curve of my breasts…. I suddenly felt hot, a feverish longing struck me hard. My eyes lowered, and in the silence, I also took time to admire him.
I didn’t know this gorgeous man could get more beautiful, he was ethereal. His silky hair was slightly tousled like he’d run his hands through it multiple times. His features looked sharper, defined in a way that made you want to trace his jaw with your fingers. Mesmerizing, he was so painfully mesmerizing.
Without thinking, I reached for him, pressing my palm against his chest. He flinched, taken aback by my forwardness, but he soon relaxed, his hard gaze softening momentarily.
I felt the tremors of his heart against my skin. It was fast, matching mine. I was glad. I didn’t realize I was smiling till he roughly grasped my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze once again.
“Damn you.” He rasped, claiming my mouth the next second.
Butterflies burst and scattered in my stomach, followed by a rush of adrenaline that shot through my brain, rippling through my body and lighting the desire he’d engraved on me with his touch.
As I melted into the kiss, my arms snaked around his neck. No words were spoken between us, but the way our lips moved in perfect synchrony, the way his tongue eagerly pushed into my mouth, I knew it was a declaration that was more than words could ever describe.
LUKE
This woman would be the death of me.
I had everything planned out. I would continue my teasing game with her until she broke and approached me for a sort of relief. I was going to hold out on seeing her for a while, then when I finally did, she’ll be at my beck and call.
When she didn’t show up to work, I didn’t think much of it at first, but then I noticed that the damned coworker of hers was also absent. I was aware she’d gone out with her team the night before, the tracking device I installed in her phone had really come in handy.
I even went ahead to send her a sweet goodnight message, just to keep her on her ties. To remind her of who she belonged to, even when she had no idea.
My doubts escalated when I checked her location, seeing that she was neither at home nor anywhere near her neighborhood. She had gone to an amusement park, but that wasn’t what ticked me off. I had a gut feeling that she wasn’t alone, call it paranoia but I didn’t give a fuck.
I tried to push it off my mind, to tone down on my possessiveness, but I was restless, so much so that I had called in the head of her team to get more info. Of course, I did it professionally, using the excuse of her award to inquire about her whereabouts. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
It was good that the head of the team was a chatterbox, and she’d buttered out that Aurelia drank herself to stupor, and the damned coworker took her home. But thanks to the tracker, I knew for a fact that he did not take her home.
That bastard!
My fists slammed against my desk. I cursed under my breath, straightening up in my seat as I grabbed my phone.
LUKE; Where are you?
I knew exactly where she was, I meant to ask who she was with, but that would seem suspicious.
In the end, I gave up and called her in, throwing my plans in the ditch. I was annoyed, I waited in my office, my feet impatiently tapping against the floor as I watched her spend fifteen minutes just standing outside.
My chest ached and burned, but I resisted. When she finally came in, I had let my emotions get the best of me. I was more irritated at myself. Why does this woman get me so riled up, even as she looked at me, I felt myself go harder than a rock. My erection strained against the fabric of my trousers, but I kept my expression neutral.
I fought the urge to strip her naked and take her against the wall right here, I needed a way to vent my rage. And it didn’t do me any good now that I visualized it happening.
Blood rushed to my veins as her tongue darted out to wet her lips. Her eyes lowered seductively, and my heart skipped a beat the moment she flattened her palm against my chest.
Fuck it all.
“Damn you.”
I kissed her, hard, saying nothing but telling everything with my lips. My need, my want, my pent-up arousal from these past few days.
Her lips tasted sweeter than they did the last time. I angled my head to deepen the kiss, losing all form of rationality as her arms snaked around my neck.
I forced myself to pull back. And she gave a small whine of protest as her gray eyes looked up at me. Pleading for more.
I didn’t know I could get harder but I did.
It took everything in me to regain control as I stepped back. I had something else in mind.
“Get ready,” I tell her, and she blinks in confusion. “We’re going shopping.”
