Chapter 20 Not Giving Her a Chance
fter a while, Adrian took his seat, looking calm and composed. Germaine followed him and held out the older in her hands. “This is the financial report for the previous quarter, Mr. Locke.”
How is Corey’s arm? Is he doing better?” Adrian asked as he took the folder. “Tell him to take a few more ays off if he hasn’t fully recovered. It’ll be a little harder on you, though.”
ermaine said, “I spoke to him this morning, and he said he’ll be back to work tomorrow. I’m guessing lat means he’s fine now.”
Okay.” Adrian looked through the report and said, “Things should be easier for you once he’s back.”
ermaine nodded without saying anything. Then, she left the room.
he design department was on the 11th floor. Farrah reviewed all the information on “Enduring Moments” nce more, her interest was piqued, and perhaps it would be a good chance for her to showcase her skills.
he’d never designed jewelry before, but she had designed clothes. The art of designing was essentially onnected, regardless of the item. Designers had to pour their hearts into their work to create things with Te and soul.
er desire to give the project a shot burned brightly. Just then, Natasha handed her a thick stack of ocuments. “Go make three copies of this, Farrah.”
he stack was so thick that the papers on top almost slipped off. Farrah hurriedly caught them. There ioked to be about several thousand pieces of paper there.
atasha left without a look back, leaving Farrah dumbfounded. She looked around the department and ondered whether there were any assistants. Why did she have to do this?
hen again, she felt that she had to get used to what the workplace was like since she was new. So, she ompleted the task without complaint. It took her a whole hour.
he brought the copied documents to Natasha’s office. “Here you go, Ms. Gray.”
he was about to leave when Natasha stopped her. “Hold up, Farrah.”
arrah smiled at her. “Is there anything else, Ms. Gray?”
he information on ‘Enduring Moments‘ is only for you to understand the project. You won’t be involved the design aspect of things.”
Why?” Farrah frowned. She stepped forward. “I’m a designer, too!”
atasha looked at her like she’d just told a joke. She sipped her water and appraised Farrah, saying. Ju’re a designer? Do you have any past designs to show for it? Have you won any awards? Do you have portfolio?”
er questions left Farrah speechless. The latter organized her thoughts, wanting to fight for herself, when atasha continued, “You’re still an intern, so you should focus on running errands and doing admin work ain yourself a little.”
er internship would last two months, but the designs for “Enduring Moments” had to be submitted within month! She didn’t want to miss this opportunity. “Ms. Gray, I-
jet out.”

“Out!” Natasha cut Farrah off again, her tone icy.
Just then, Natasha’s landline rang. She answered it, leaving Farrah with no choice but to trudge out of the office. She felt glum as she returned to her workstation. This was devastating.
Soon, she returned to her senses when her phone rang Looking at the caller ID, she saw that it was Philip calling. She composed herself and headed to a deserted corner to answer the call.
Her voice was soft and sweet as she said, “Hi, Grandpa
“Hi, Fay. Have you considered what I spoke to you about earlier?” Philip asked kindly. “When can we arrange for the families to meet?”
Farrah knew she couldn’t escape this. So, after some thought, she said, “How about Saturday? Adrian’s just taken over the company, so he should be quite busy.”

Alright, then. We’ll do as you say,” Philip said happily. “You’re lovely, Fay. You’re considerate of Adrian and an understand that he’s busy.”
arrah chuckled shyly. She told Philip to take care of himself and that she and Adrian would visit him hen they had the time. Philip chatted with her for a while longer before ending the call.
| Ms. Gray catches you answering personal calls during office hours, she’ll dock your pay.”
arrah looked up to see a tall, skinny young man with blond curls and a nose ring. He approached her hile holding a coffee mug. “Hi, I’m Jack Dell. I’m your colleague.”
he knew that, of course. He stood out way too much, and she knew his name. She’d seen his profile irlier, which had a photo attached.
he returned to her senses when she saw his outstretched hand. Then, she smiled politely and shook it, lying. “Hi, I’m Farrah Tate.”
airy tale, right? I get it.” He laughed and left.
irrah was confused as she watched him leave. Yesterday, he’d been among the first to make fun of her. hy did he seem so nice today? Nice enough to give her a reminder, at least.
ie returned to her desk, and a young woman with long, dark hair slid over to her in her seat. She asked iftly. “Did Ms. Gray forbid you from having anything to do with the ‘Enduring Moments‘ line, Farrah?”
low did you know that?”
he young woman said, “It’s alright–there’s always next time. Things have never been easy in the design
partment. When I first joined, she didn’t let me participate in any designing, either.
he said she was worried my designs would be too horrible–they’d be an eyesore for the judges. Worse ill, they would smear the whole department’s reputation.”
ow can she be so sure when she hasn’t even seen the designs?” Farrah was indignant. “That’s so biased.
What can you do about it? She’s the boss here.” The young woman held out a hand. “Hi, I’m Mallory
itton. Let’s be friends.”

hat’s a nice name. It sounds like ‘fairy tale.“”
ddenly, Farrah found that her colleagues were pretty easy to get along with. It made sense–with estige Group’s size, how could the company perform well if it hired a bunch of oddballs?
e could live with everybody making fun of her yesterday. After all, the incident was a surprising one. yone who’d witnessed it would think she had ulterior motives.
allory asked, “Do you know the new CEO, Farrah?”
uh?” Farrah smiled and shook her head. “No.”
h.” Mallory nodded without pressing for more answers.
at afternoon, Natasha assigned more work to Farrah. The latter carefully and efficiently completed the ik, hoping it would help her win the opportunity to participate in designing for “Enduring Moments“.
