Chapter 411 Harsh Words
Xavier did not return for dinner that night.
His phone was on when Winnie called, but no one answered.
Feeling worried about his lack of response, she immediately contacted Louis.
The man answered quickly, but his voice was soft, sounding as if it was an inconvenient time for him to take the call.
Louis responded, “Mr. Fairchild is in a meeting and probably won’t make it in time for dinner. You don’t have to wait for him, Mrs. Fairchild.”
Winnie questioned in annoyance, “Since that’s the case, why didn’t he tell me earlier?”
After all, in the past, Xavier would always inform her in advance if he could not join her for dinner.
In truth, Louis was also a little puzzled. In the past, even if Xavier was caught up in a meeting, he would take the time to reply to Winnie’s messages.
Clearly, Xavier had not notified Winnie that day, or she would not have contacted Louis.
However, Louis could not blame his boss and said the man had forgotten the matter. He could only apologize and accept responsibility for not reminding her in time.
Winnie had no intention of blaming anyone. She was merely worried that something had happened to Xavier because he didn’t answer her call.
Initially, she hoped to speak with him, but when Louis said he was at a meeting, she abandoned the idea.
After finishing dinner alone, Winnie went jogging for a while before returning to her room to wash up.
It was already nine in the evening by the time she finished blow-drying her hair. Not only did Xavier not return home, but he did not even call to explain his whereabouts.
Winnie tried to dial Xavier’s number again.
After waiting a long time, the man finally picked up his phone.
At first, she was slightly stunned when she heard the hoarse and scratchy voice on the other end of the phone. After getting used to the voice, she asked, “Xavier, why haven’t you come back? It’s so late! You must take care of yourself and get plenty of rest these few days.”
Harold felt a rush of pleasure as he heard Winnie’s worried tone. That was exactly what he was aiming for. He intended to make the woman so anxious that she would be unable to eat or sleep.
He smirked and replied calmly, “I’m having dinner with a client. You can go to sleep first. There’s no need to wait for me. Do take good care of yourself when I’m not with you. If you need anything, tell Mary and the others. Don’t hurt yourself.”
“Okay. I’m tired of hearing you repeat yourself all the time!” Winnie lamented.
They spoke for a while more before hanging up the phone.
The fake Xavier on the phone was still as attentive as before, but his voice was completely different.
Winnie realized that she might be overthinking during the day. In fact, his attitude toward her had not changed; the only thing that seemed different was his voice.
When her train of thought ended there, the woman could not help but laugh at her own foolishness.
When did I become so paranoid? Why am I wasting my time thinking about such useless stuff?
After calming herself down, she went to bed.
These past few days, she hadn’t had a good night’s sleep because she was worried about Xavier.
Now that he was back, she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Unfortunately, she did not have any good dreams that night.
Her dreams were filled with strange and grotesque creatures, and she could not escape from them. No matter how hard she tried screaming for help, not a single sound came out of her mouth.
In her half-awaken state, she suddenly felt her body become heavy.
It was as if a huge boulder was pressing down on her chest, making it impossible for her to breathe.
Winnie jolted awake from her dreams when she felt a cool and wet sensation on her lips.
She realized there was someone lying on top of her, reeking of alcohol.
The smell was unpleasant, so she kicked the person out of reflex, but the person pressed down on her leg to prevent her from moving.
“It’s me, Winnie!” A hoarse, rough voice rang out. The woman relaxed a little when she thought Xavier had returned. However, she still felt a little uncomfortable as she spoke. “Have you gone drinking? You’re crushing me, and I can’t breathe! Get off of me.”
Harold sneered, “Don’t be shy. I’ve pinned you multiple times before, and you never once complained that you couldn’t breathe. Why are you saying this now? Is it because I haven’t started touching you yet?”
For some reason, Winnie was irritated by his words that night. Perhaps it was because she wasn’t feeling well, or perhaps, it was the heavy odor of alcohol on him. Despite their previous intimate encounters, which were even more daring than that night, she was repulsed.
“Xavier, I’m not feeling well. You should go and wash up. How much did you drink? Why do you smell so strongly of alcohol?” she pleaded.
“I smell bad?” Harold unbuttoned his shirt and switched on the bedside lamp. “I didn’t drink that much. I came back in a hurry to see you.”
He looked at Winnie’s voluptuous figure under her thin pajamas and felt aroused. Subsequently, he began to undo his belt.
As the metal buckle clicked, Winnie frowned and pushed him away. “What are you doing? Go to the bathroom.”
Harold smirked silently, his eyes filled with both hatred and passion.
He leaned in and suddenly grabbed the woman’s wrist.
“What’s wrong? Can’t we be intimate? You are my wife,” he said seductively.
Winnie was slightly annoyed with his actions. “Xavier, I’ve already told you that I’m not feeling well. Moreover, you reek of alcohol.”
She shook off the man’s restraint with a sudden swing of her hand. “Obviously, you are drunk. I suggest you sober up first.”
“Oh? What if I say I want to force things my way while intoxicated?” Harold challenged.
Winnie furrowed her brows in anger. “What are you talking about? Are you drunk and confused? I’ll break your hand right away if you dare touch me.”
The man raised his eyebrow and sneered, “I believe you have the ability to do so.”
Thinking of what the woman had done in Lightspring back then, Harold’s lust from earlier dissipated and was replaced by fury. C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
Sleep with her? No. She must still think that I’m her husband. I want to humiliate her and make her feel utter despair.
“What a mood killer!” Harold deliberately uttered in annoyance and slowly got out of bed.
Winnie thought she was hearing things.
Why did he say something like that? Is he really drunk?
Alas, Harold’s revenge against her was far from over.
He reached out and pulled up a part of Winnie’s nightgown, revealing the skin on her stomach.
There were hideous red scars on her snow-white skin.
After glancing at them, Harold stared at Winnie and said with pleasure, “The scars on your body are really disgusting. Do you know how nauseating it was for me every night when I’m intimate with you? I had to turn off the lights and close my eyes just to bear with it.”
Winnie’s face turned pale.
She was shocked upon hearing the man’s ruthless criticisms. What the h*ll is he saying?
