Shattered Vows Shining Comeback

Chapter 35

Chapter 35 Pay up and Go to Jail

“Jake, why did you bring home such a wretched wench?”

Sarah went up and grabbed Jake’s arm. This was her first time hearing him address Gwen in such a humbling manner. They were used to making demands of Gwen, and she’d meekly oblige. But now, the tables had turned.

Scowling, she went up to Gwen and remarked arrogantly, “So what if we badmouth you? It’s not like you hau reputation to begin with. You never said a word when we yelled at you back at the Hall Manor anyway!!

When Sarah made a scene, she noticed the expression on Jake’s face souring. She belatedly realized that she had accidentally let slip her poor treatment of Gwen over the years.

Henry could stand it no more, Glancing at Gwen, he grumbled to her, “So, they’re the mother- and sister–in–law you’ve served diligently for years? They don’t deserve your effort!”

However, he calmed down after considering that Gwen had decided to cut her losses. He finally said, “The choice is yours, but I’ll hold you responsible if you bring shame to our family!”

She assured him, “Henry, don’t worry about that.”

Then, she smirked at Sarah. “If my guess is right, this is what you’re going to say next. ‘So what if Caitlin trashed your store? We’ll just pay up.‘

“Is that right?” This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.

After Gwen hit the nail on the head, Sarah snapped impudently, “That’s right! Your little store isn’t worth anything, I bet. Us Lawsons can afford to pay the losses.”

“Is 30 million dollars fine with you?” Gwen slowly revealed the amount, which nearly sent Sarah collapsing to the floor in shock.

Sarah exclaimed, “How is a small boutique worth that much? You’re kidding with me!”

Gwen’s unfeeling gaze swept past Sarah’s face. “Don’t believe me? I have a list of detailed losses. You’ll have nothing to say when you read it.

“You wicked bitch. I’ll tear you apart. How dare you!” Sarah yelled in a shrill voice and lunged at Gwen, only for Jake to hold her back.

Frowning deeply, he stopped Sarah with a dark cloud over his head. “Shut up!”

Their fight had attracted the attention of most of Bellmont City high society. The public fight revealed to the Bellmont city people the poor treatment dished out to the seemingly glamorous daughter–in–law of the Hall family. They expressed their distaste by shooting daggers at Sarah.

Someone murmured, “I’m surprised that Gwen Lawson’s mother- and sister–in–law would behave in such a crass manner. To think they are the Hall family!”

“I pity that girl for the physical and verbal abuse she went through at the hands of her in–laws!”

“Right? And to top it off, she has to deal with a troublesome sister–in–law.”

“See? All Mr. Hall could think of is to defend his mom and sister. I could only imagine the life Ms. Lawson led before

the divorce.”

“If I were Ms. Lawson, I would have cheated on my husband too given his toxic family!”

The fervent discussion did not escape Jake’s attention. He admitted that he did not put enough effort into his marriage. Even the outsiders were able to identify his flaws, yet he had been oblivious to his shortcomings for three years.

As the pillar of the family, and faced with Caitlin’s wails and Sienna’s pleading, he had no choice but to relent.

“Gwen, can we put this behind us if I agree to compensate you for the 30–million–dollar loss?”

“I want you to pay up, but I want them in jail too,” Gwen replied carelessly and haughtily.

His eyes bore onto her face. “I know you’re angry at my family, but don’t you think you’ve crossed a line by making the police arrest them in public?”

Caitlin and Sienna, who were both of distinguished pedigrees, would bring disgrace to their family names if they were arrested in public.

“It’s all up to me. A case worth 30–million in losses is enough to put Caitlin in jail for a few years. She’ll leave the prison a wiser person.

“Since the Hall family fails to raise its daughter well, it’s time for the prison warden to do her job.”

Then, Gwen turned her sharp gaze onto Sienna’s tear–stained face. “Only you know if you’re guilty or not. You’ll get to see the evidence I gathered against you when you’re at the police department!”
