Chapter 1029
Chapter 1029:
Servants swarmed around Nova as she made her way toward the mansion, her eyes immediately landing on Hoyt, who was kneeling by the entrance.
Her perfectly manicured nails dug into her palm, her anger flaring like a sudden storm.
Seeing her dear son kneeling here felt like a slap in the face. Suppressing the wave of fury, Nova marched toward Hoyt, her expression cold and tight.
“What’s going on here?” she asked, her voice deceptively calm, almost as if she were an ordinary mother questioning her son’s punishment. But to Hoyt, her tone felt like an accusation. He trembled, fear seeping into his voice.
“I only criticized Kellan a little, and Dad made me kneel here for three hours. But don’t worry about me, Mom—”
Nova’s patience wore thin as she cut him off. “You worthless fool!” she snapped, delivering a sharp slap to his face.
She took a deep, steadying breath, her face betraying no emotion as she looked down at him. “How did I end up with a son like you?” Another slap landed before Hoyt could even protest, and by the time he registered the sting, he saw his mother walk past him, not sparing him a second glance.
“Why?”noveldrama
Hoyt’s teeth clenched, his eyes burning with frustration.
He had known it would end like this.
Nova entered the Lloyd family mansion without a word to her son and directly went to the study to see Brook.
He was engrossed in company documents, not even glancing up at her entrance.
“Honey, you don’t even look up when I walk in?” she asked with a soft smile, the remnants of her earlier anger now dissolved. Brook took a sip of coffee, his expression unreadable.
“I heard your footsteps. You’re the only one who walks like that in this house.”
“You know me too well,” Nova said with a casual smile.
She sat across from Brook, her demeanor effortlessly composed, as she brought up the matter at hand. “I saw Hoyt kneeling outside just now. He must have upset you again. I’m sorry for him. It’s my fault for being too busy back then and not having time to teach him properly.”
Upon hearing Nova’s tone, full of guilt and regret, Brook set the papers down in his hands.
“What does this have to do with you?” he asked, frowning deeply. “Hoyt has always been impulsive, and his skills are nowhere near Kellan’s. It’s only natural for him to feel envious, which is why he still needs a lot of discipline. Don’t blame yourself.”
“You’re right,” Nova agreed, nodding at his words.
She then softly began massaging his temples with her delicate fingers. “I used to wonder why Kellan was so smart while my child was so foolish. Now that I think about it, I spoiled Hoyt too much.” Her voice was soft, and the pressure from her hands was perfect. Though she seemed to be taking the blame, she was really just showing her thoughtful side to Brook.
As expected, he shut his eyes, and his mood lightened noticeably. “Compared to Kellan’s rebelliousness, Hoyt is much more agreeable,” he said.
