An imaginary place
‘Yes… hold on now’ she ordered in haste as she pointed out of the window. ‘Thank Heavens, there she is’.
The driver slowed down and she immediately got out of the car and raced to meet Cindy who sat on the tarred road without minding the stares from people.
‘ Cindy?’ she called softly as she hugged her making her wet her clothing with her tears.
‘ You don’t know how terrible I feel ‘ she answered as she sobbed hardly ruing her makeup not scared she was going to spoil the mask.
‘You will be fine okay ‘ Rhea reassured as she softly patted her back while she thought of a solution.
After some minutes of sobbing, drying of tears and consolation. She got up fiercely as she walked to her car. She looked petulant, and more brave than ever.
Left with no other than following her , Rhea walked briskly after her , managing to walk fast ignoring the pain from the heels she was wearing.
‘Is anything the matter’ she asked as soon as she entered the comfort of the vehicle.
‘No!’ Cindy answered with a finality tone.
Ignoring her tone she pestered further.
‘Are you sure? You look pretty flushed’ .
‘Am Fine Rhea. Thats enough display for the rest of the year’ she ordered with a frown.
Taking the warning, Rhea strapped the seatbelt over as she maintained the silence Cindy wanted.
The car engines roared as she turned on the ignition.
‘ Rhea?’ she called softly as she turned to look at her.
It was just five minutes of their quiet drive and it was quite unusual for her.
‘ Am just so confused Rhea, what do I do now?’ .
‘ They will always suggest you follow your heart…’ she paused as she observed her. ‘… but I guess that’s something I can’t advise you on’ .
She breathed hard as she recollected how Damien deceived her into believing everything he had told was the truth. She had been hurting an innocent person.
‘ What if we get over to the house and poison him’ Rhea suggested.
‘ That’s ridiculous ‘ She glared hard at her but then that angry look was soon replaced with a smiling face that turned to a loud laugher. ‘Your the craziest person Rhea’.
‘You know me better than anyone else here but consider it a job I would love to do’ she responded looking out of the window when an idea struck her.
All the time they haven’t checked the orphanage which Cindy was raised.
‘ How about the orphanage? They might have some information about her ‘ she suggested .
‘ Rhea! Your right. I haven’t even thought about it’ .
With that Cindy set the gear for the orphanage, it wasn’t in the city but thankfully it was a road trip which she bet Rhea would enjoy.
***********
‘Your sure we are at the right place’ she turned around in suspicion. ‘This is someone’s home Cindy’.
‘Am quite confused Rhea, I can’t forget the orphanage I grew up… can I?’
If she could remember vividly this wasn’t the orphanage, what she was seeing here was a residential home which looked nothing like the orphanage.
‘ I could remember there was a garden here ‘ she said pointing to where looked like a garage.
‘Maybe we need to check the right address, this is Los Angeles and you can’t just pull down buildings. It’s illegal ‘.
‘Rhea? Am sure about the address ‘ she muttered in slight confusion.
‘I believe you Cindy, am just saying we could knock and ask whoever leaves there ‘ she said.
Cindy shrugged as she looked so flushed with her eyes wearing her out in tiredness.
Rhea held her hands as they walked over to the house and knocked lightly.
A young man about 26 opened the door, he was huge and well built with height of a basketball player plus he was handsome as his flowing dark hair stopped right at his shoulder.
Rhea stared at him for a while before she felt the painful squeeze of Cindy on her right arm.
‘Hi…’ she managed to say. ‘ You live here?’ .
Another Painful squeeze made her realized she was speaking a little out of place. She went behind Cindy and allowed her do the talking.
‘Hi, can we see the owners of the apartment?’ she asked politely with a frown.
The young man giggled as he answered with a hoarse voice which scared Cindy
‘Am the owner, who do you want?’ .
It was time for Rhea to come out of her hiding place as she smelt bullying. If there was something which pissed her off was anyone trying to bully Cindy especially guys like him.
‘Dont scream at her, we just want to know the real owners of this house ‘ she said in a stern voice.
‘Watch your tone pretty girl, I said the truth when i claimed ownership ‘ he replied calmly.
‘ so you own this house?’.
He nodded.
‘ You know if here was used as an orphanage?’ she asked briskly.
‘Nah but you can ask my mum, she stayed here all through her life’ he suggested.
‘ Thought you said you own the house ‘ Rhea glared.
‘ Be calm pretty girl. I own the house in an inherited way. It’s my dad’s house though ‘ he explained.
‘ we need to speak with your mum. Is she in?’ Cindy asked, it was the first time she was speaking after being frightened by his voice.
‘Why should I let you do that?’ he looked at her before taking his gaze to Rhea.
‘We need to ask her something and then few seconds ago you suggested we talk to her’ she said in an angry tone.
He was taken aback by her audacity.
These two ladies are tough, he thought.
‘ What are your names?’ he asked.
‘Its not important ‘ said Rhea as she pushed him away and entered with Cindy following closely.
He got a grip on himself as he followed them, he said nothing. Not actually because he was scared of them, he was just surprised at their audacity.
Sitting on the couch watching an adult show was a woman which they both guessed was his mum.
She turned immediately to see who it was but then her expression shocked them.
She looked scared and immediately her eyes met with Cindy’s the glass she was holding fell, breaking into tiny pieces.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
