Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 378

Back in her college days, Selena had made a few trips to the Capital for journalism gigs, and within minutes of arriving, she'd already mapped out her escape routes and hideouts. She was sure that by the time Everett noticed she was missing, she'd be well-hidden. After

all, being a journalist meant mastering the art of stealth.

Practically on autopilot, Selena lifted the hem of her dress and, balancing on her high heels, sprinted toward the ballroom's grand entrance.

Meanwhile, in the poker room, Everett had barely played a few hands, but his stack of chips was already towering. Sure, he was skilled, but the others were practically handing him their chips, eager to curry favor.

Even in high society, there were layers. As the heir to a top-tier fortune, Everett was at the pinnacle of this social ladder. Sharing a table with him was a chance no one wanted to miss, and losing some chips was a small price if it meant catching Mr. Everett's attention. But today, Everett seemed off, his mind clearly elsewhere, his pile of chips growing without a hint of a smile. The room exchanged confused glances, wondering what had him so distracted.novelbin

Everett pulled out his phone, lighting up the screen to reveal the ballroom's live surveillance. He spotted Selena's familiar silhouette returning from the terrace, her eyes scanning the room before she made a beeline for the main doors.

"Unbelievable," he muttered through gritted teeth, shoving his chips towards the center of the table with a dismissive gesture. The room's atmosphere tightened, eyes wide with curiosity.

Without explaining, he tossed out a few words, "Carry on, I'm out." Striding out of the poker room, he unbuttoned his suit jacket, trying to release some tension, his mind racing with thoughts of what he'd do if he caught her.

But unexpectedly, his dark eyes caught sight of her returning figure, stopping him in his tracks as if he'd seen a ghost. Selena approached him casually, a soft smile on her lips, "Quitting the game so soon? I was just about to come find you." His gaze locked onto hers, searching for any hint of deceit, but finding none. His throat tightened as he asked, "Where did you go?"

Selena, seemingly unaware of his mood, answered nonchalantly, "I saw a pharmacy at the entrance, so I went to grab some hangover pills. You get headaches after drinking, remember? Here, take them She putted the box from her purse and handed it to him.

Everett looked at the hangover pills, recalling how she always kept them at home. His fingers absently traced the box. "That's it?" His

carried a hint of tension.

Selena finally noticed his unease and raised an eyebrow, "What's up with you, Everett? Why all the questions? You're acting weird."

She couldn't help but tease, "Did you lose a bunch of money or something? Is that why you're being grumpy?"

With that, she turned to leave, clearly miffed. Her playful defiance seemed to dissolve his suspicions like smoke. He quickly caught up to her, pulling her into his arms and kissing her frown away, "If Mrs. Bennett doesn't like me drinking, I'll cut back, okay?"

"Whatever, like I care," she huffed, turning her head away.

After a moment, Everett leaned closer and murmured in her ear, "I won a whole table of chips tonight. As shared assets, I'll give you half. No hard feelings?"

"Oh please, do I look like I care about that?" Selena's eyes sparkled as she faced him, her lips forming each word clearly, "Unless it's seventy-thirty!"
