Chapter 563 His to Keep
Taylor gently reassured her, "The anesthesia has worn off, so the pain is normal. Just focus on resting for now. I'll stay with you."
But the real concern wasn't the success of the surgery but whether her body would accept the new heart.
The moment Anna entertained the thought of escaping, it completely overtook her mind.
That idea rooted and grew inside her. Every day, she thought about nothing else but running away. Her body wasn't adapting well to the new heart. She was experiencing rejection symptoms, and her condition had worsened.
Taylor often looked at her with deep affection. "Anna, I promise I'll cure you."
But she didn't care about her health. The only thing on her mind was escaping and warning the Sanders.
She endured patiently, waiting for the perfect opportunity.
She had only one chance. She couldn't afford to fail.
For now, Taylor still trusted her. She would lose every ounce of freedom she had left if he ever caught wind of her plans.
She waited for a long time. Her worsening condition and the situation with Wisteria made Taylor more protective than ever.
During that period, he took her across multiple countries, seeking out top-tier specialists to completely cure her. But none of them could offer a permanent solution. Besides taking her medication and resting, there was nothing else to be done.
The best and worst option was another surgery to resolve the issue at its core. But even that wouldn't guarantee success; not every heart was a perfect match. Taylor became obsessed, poring over medical books, advancing his studies, and even diving into holistic medication.
Anna calculated the time. Wisteria was probably about to make her move. She couldn't wait any longer. She had to leave.
Her 18th birthday was approaching. By now, Wisteria was likely already at the Sanders.
Because it was her coming-of-age celebration, Taylor had gone all out.
He prepared an extravagant evening gown and a formal dinner just for them.
Even though no one else would attend, he wore a tailored suit, ensuring everything was perfect.
What he didn't know was that, days ago, Anna had intentionally feigned insomnia just to get her hands on some sleeping pills.
She had crushed them into a fine powder in advance. As she poured him a glass of wine that night, she discreetly tipped the powder into his drink.
"Taylor, thank you for taking care of me all these years. I have to toast to you tonight."noveldrama
She swirled the wine glass before setting it down in front of him. Then, she raised her own glass of orange juice. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be alive now. Thank you."
Taylor smiled softly. "Happy birthday, Anna. I wish you good health."
Anna nodded. "I hope so."
After dinner, she chatted with him for a little longer before returning to her room.
She had taken those pills before. She knew exactly how long it would take them to knock him out. All she had to do was wait until he was sound asleep.
About 30 minutes later, Anna quietly crept into Taylor's room. Watching him lie there in deep sleep, she whispered, "I'm sorry, Taylor."
She took some cash from his drawer and searched for her passport and ID.
She could buy a ticket and fly home immediately if she had those.
Her heart pounded as she rifled through his wardrobe drawers. This was her first
time stealing, and she was so nervous she could barely breathe.
Outside, heavy rain poured down, adding to her anxiety.
"Found it!"
Her eyes lit up. She quickly tucked everything away and slipped out of the room.
Taylor was completely unconscious, utterly defenseless. Before rushing to the airport, she took nothing else, just some money and her documents.
She booked the next available flight home. The original departure time was 3:00 a.m., but the storm delayed it by an hour.
She reassured herself as she sat in the waiting area, staring out into the dark night. The dose she gave Taylor was strong enough. At the earliest,
he wouldn't wake up until morning.
She just had to wait for the plane to take off.
At 3:30 a.m., a tall figure stepped
into the departure hall. The moment Anna saw him, her blood ran cold. Taylor. Without thinking, she turned and bolted.
She knew this was her only chance. If she failed, she'd never escape again.
She was even prepared to call the authorities. If she had to, she would report him to airport security, claim he was carrying
explosives-anything to stall him.
But then, he spoke. Just one sentence. "Anna, if you take one more step forward,
your brother will be dead by morning."
Her feet froze. Taylor had never spoken to her in that tone before. But she knew he wasn't lying.
Slowly, she turned around. He stood just a short distance away, tall and imposing.
At 21, Taylor had shed all traces of boyhood. He was now a man-mature and unreadable.
His silk pajamas were still slightly wrinkled, his hair a little messy, a clear sign that he had just woken up and rushed over.
Yet, despite everything, he remained perfectly still, eyes dark and unreadable, his voice calm and cold. "Anna, come here."
She stayed rooted in place, clutching the strap of her bag so tightly that her knuckles turned white. Taylor took a slow step forward, then another.
When he reached her, he gently took her hand. As if nothing had happened at all. "Your hands are freezing. You should've worn something warmer before running off."
But he was dressed even more lightly than she was.
Anna followed him into the car, biting her lip. "How did you know I was here?"
"You took your passport." His tone was casual. "All I had to do was check the earliest flight to Snowville."
Tears welled up in Anna's eyes. "Taylor, please let me go. I just want to go home."
The man pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. "Sorry, Anna," he whispered. "The Sanders's fate is already sealed."
