Chapter 2307 The Disgrace of the Lannister Family
“Gwain, you’re overthinking this.”

Unlike Gwain’s aggressive demeanor, Xarri remained poised, his tone calm and unwavering. “I don’t need Emmanuel’s help to take back control of the family.”
“Oh? So, you actually think you can do it alone?” Gwain’s irritation flared at Xarri’s confidence.
“Whether I can or not isn’t the point. It’s something that Quell and I must do.”
His voice held steady, carrying a quiet yet formidable presence. There was no bravado, no forceful declaration—just an unshakable certainty that seemed almost tangible.
“Hah. Then, I’ll put an end to this before it even begins!” Gwain sneered, his arrogance unrestrained. “Back then, your father was no match for mine. And now, you won’t be a match for me either!”
“So, you’re suggesting a one–on–one duel right here?” Xarri didn’t take the bait. Instead, he smiled, his composure unshaken. “Or, if you’d rather, you can all come at me at once.”
The Lannister retainers bristled, their expressions darkening. Some even stepped forward, ready to strike.
Wyatt sighed, recognizing Xarri’s tactics immediately. It was a calculated provocation, and he feared Gwain would walk right into the trap.
Chiara, on the other hand, wasn’t worried in the slightest. She knew Gwain too well. He would take the bait without a second thought.
And sure enough, he let out a cold laugh. “Why would I need help to deal with a nobody? None of you are to interfere. As heir to the family, I will personally rid us of this disgrace!”
Wyatt sighed again. He wasn’t sure how their martial skills measured against each other, but when it came to strategy and intellect, Gwain was utterly outmatched.
Then again, perhaps his downfall lay in his own arrogance. noveldrama
Clive and the others exchanged knowing glances, arms crossed as they settled in to watch. This was a battle between heirs–a clash of rightful successors. It wasn’t their place to interfere.
“Wait.”
Just as Gwain prepared to strike, Xarri lifted a hand, halting him.
Gwain’s smirk deepened. “What’s wrong? Weren’t you full of confidence just a moment ago? Don’t tell me you’re about to beg for mercy on your knees.”
“No.” Xarri’s lips curled into a faint smile. “It’s only natural for heirs to test their strength against each other. But what did you mean when you said you were going to rid the family of its disgrace? What makes you think my sister and I are stains on the Lannister name?”
“Still trying to twist my words, are you?” Gwain scoffed. “Your father lost to mine in combat. By our family’s law, he should have relinquished all authority, along with our most advanced martial techniques and secret
manuals.

Quell’s grip tightened around her sword. The sheer arrogance in Gwain’s voice, the shameless certainty with which he hurled his accusations, made her want to strike him down on the spot.
However, she respected her brother. He had declared this a one–on–one fight, and she wouldn’t interfere.
“What a joke.”
Xarri remained composed, his expression unruffled. He had never been one to act on impulse. With quiet confidence, he simply said, “The Dragon Tome was never ours to begin with.”
“What?!”
Gwain and Wyatt both stared at him in shock.
The older retainers of the Lannister family, however, showed no such surprise. Even Chiara didn’t look particularly taken aback.
Gwain narrowed his eyes. “What exactly do you mean by that?” His voice carried an edge of forced skepticism, as though he hadn’t already heard the truth from Theron. He had to keep up the act–no one could suspect he was responsible for the master’s death. His expression darkened in feigned confusion, brows furrowing as he pressed, “Explain yourself.”
Xarri remained unfazed. “You’re young. It’s no surprise you don’t know the full truth. I don’t blame you.” His tone was almost indulgent. “To be honest, I only uncovered the complete story after my own journey to the Ancient Woods.”
“Oh?” Gwain sneered, making no move to attack just yet. He wasn’t known for his wisdom, but he wasn’t a fool either.
Deep down, he knew that Theron–an ascetic monk who had long transcended worldly concerns–had no reason to spin falsehoods. He wanted to see whether Xarri’s account aligned with what he had already been told.
“This story begins more than thirty years ago,” Xarri said, his voice measured and steady. “At that time, a martial arts genius unlike any seen in a thousand years emerged. The more wounded he was in battle, the more ferocious he became. He single–handedly slaughtered the ten greatest Sage–level warriors of his era, becoming the sole legend of the martial world for a millennium.”
Even Gwain couldn’t mask his disbelief.
He knew firsthand how terrifying Sage–level warriors were. He had barely survived a single encounter with Yorick. And yet, there had been someone capable of slaying ten of them at once?
Impossible.
Absolutely impossible.
It had to be a fabricated tale.
Xarri, of course, caught the skepticism in his gaze but remained unshaken. “Back then, both my father and yours had the same disbelieving look. After all, the Lannister family had been regarded as the pinnacle of

“Bull… Bullsh*t!” Gwain snapped, agitation flaring in his eyes. “Our great–uncle passed away of natural causes! How could he have been slain? Besides, our family has always stayed out of political struggles. We don’t go to war. How could something like that have happened?”
Xarri gave a soft chuckle. “You’re right that our family’s doctrine has always dictated as much. But whether every member of the family truly abided by that principle… is another matter entirely.”
He shook his head slightly, his voice calm yet laced with something unreadable. “I found the truth deep within the stone hall of the Ancient Woods. I combed through records that had been hidden away for decades. What I uncovered was this–our great–uncle secretly conspired with foreign forces, plotting to carve up and seize control of our homeland.”
“You… You’re slandering our family!” Gwain’s composure wavered, his voice sharp with anger.
The others reacted similarly, disbelief etched across their faces.
Xarri pressed on, undeterred. “After the battle, the president bestowed upon the warrior who defeated the Ten Saints the title of Dawnbringer. At the time, many sought to erase any trace of our family’s involvement. They buried the truth
th layers of political maneuvering, suppressing reports, distorting
the facts. But there were still those who knew what had truly transpired.”
“Hmph! Mere words prove nothing,” Gwain scoffed, crossing his arms. He refused to believe it.
As heir to the Lannister family, accepting such a reality would be an unbearable humiliation. Worse, it would tarnish a reputation that had endured for over a century.
“Believe what you will. I am merely stating the facts,” Xarri replied evenly. “That incident shook our family to its core. No matter how hard they tried to bury it, the stain of that betrayal could not be erased. It became known as our family’s greatest disgrace.”
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. “After much deliberation, the family reached a decision. There was only one way to cleanse that shame–to master the greatest internal cultivation technique in existence and use it to strike down the Dawnbringer.”
His gaze flickered with something unreadable. “Of course, they couldn’t kill him outright. He was the nation’s strongest warrior, a hero among the people. But within the family, the decision had already been made. The Dragon Tome was chosen as the means to accomplish it.”
Xarri’s expression darkened slightly. “But the Dragon Tome belonged to the Chapel of Oros, a technique so closely guarded that acquiring it was nearly impossible. That was when my father became a pawn in your father’s game–and in the schemes of the rest of our family.”
