Chapter 27
Title: The confession
“Thank you for going out with me,” Lily said shyly as she sat beside Miguel on a long bench. It was a beautiful cozy night. The gentle breeze slowly swayed Lily’s hair as she stared into space. The atmosphere felt awkward. The bold Lily that had seduced Miguel earlier, was seated beside him now, being all shy and jelly. Was she not the same person?
“So…” Miguel began, but paused and just shrugged as he had nothing to say. He couldn’t come up with anything. The atmosphere wasn’t favorable. His heart kept thumping hard against his chest.
“Wait… I think it’s going to snow today,” Lily gasped sharply as she stared at the screen of her phone with her eyes widened in shock, and Miguel looked at her.
“I think we should go home before it starts then. It’s going to get cold out here and I didn’t bring a coat outside,” Miguel suggested, but Lily quickly shook her head.
“Let’s watch the snow together,” She demanded, and he gave her a long blank stare before he turned his face away.
“Are you a child? Only children are desperate to watch the snow. It’s not like you’ve not seen it before while growing up,” Miguel rolled his eyes sarcastically as he crossed his arms on his chest, and Lily bit her bottom lip.
“Just consider this as you doing me a favor. Let’s watch it together,” She insisted, and he finally nodded.
“Actually, it was my first time watching snowfall with someone I like,” She blurted out, and he looked at her. His heart missed a beat, and his throat went dry. Slowly, he blinked his eyes as they pierced into hers.
“Uhm…” He cleared his throat and swallowed nothing as he blinked his eyes a few times. His heart thumped hard against his chest as he turned his face away. His chest contracted so tightly that he could barely breathe, so he hit his chest slightly a few times, looking everywhere else except his face.
“Breathe, Miguel… Fucking breath! What is wrong with you?” He cursed silently as he tried to stabilize his breath, but his thumping heart wouldn’t let that happen.
“I have something to tell you, Miguel…” Lily began, but she paused and bit her bottom lip. Coming up with the right words was quite difficult, but she was going to do it. Even though she was shy, she was a straightforward person who always set her feelings straight and never hid anything. What was the point of hiding it from him, anyway?
“Are you listening?” She asked, staring at the back of his head as he had turned his face away.
“Hmm… I’m listening,” He nodded without even looking at her, and she scoffed.
“How am I supposed to talk when you are not even looking at me?” She rolled her eyes, and he finally turned to face her, but his eyes were staring straight at her forehead.
“Why are you staring at my forehead, Miguel? Are you disgusted by me?” Lily teased him but sounded a bit serious. Of course, it was written all over him that he wasn’t comfortable, and not because he was disgusted by her or anything.
“No, I’m not,” He replied to her quickly.
“Look at me,” She reached for his hands and held them. Miguel’s heart skipped a beat.
“Wh… what are you doing?” He stuttered as he blinked his eyes. He wasn’t supposed to be like this as the man, but there was something about Lily. There was something about her that always rendered him helpless every time he was around her. Something about her that always made him vulnerable.
“Stay still… Just for a few minutes… Let’s stay like this,” She demanded in the calmest and sexiest voice that left his heart melting in his chest.
Their eyes were locked intensely, and fuck! He couldn’t help but admire those gorgeous and charming eyes of hers. They were so beautiful, the sparks in them melted his heart.
Shortly, snow started falling. It was a romantic moment for the two. This was something Lily had always dreamt of all her life. Watching the snow with the one he loves, and maybe getting her first confession there. Although that scenario had only happened in dramas she had watched severally, and of course, she knew that it was scripted and those shows were probably never real, but still, she had been fantasizing about this all her life. Hoping it works out eventually.
Miguel looked around and all he could say was ‘wow’ when he saw the beautiful snows. He was not a fan of movies, but the few romance movies he’d watched in the past had this same scenario, and he found it a bit funny as the thought of suddenly being in the male character’s shoes struck his mind.
“You said you wanted to tell me something,” Miguel turned to her and broke the silence. He looked down at their hands that were still locked, and back to her face. All he saw in her eyes was admiration.
“I love you, Miguel…” She finally spilled the beans, and Miguel’s face went bland.
“I know we’ve not known each other for long, but I fell for you the first time we met…” Lily paused and squeezed his hands gently.
“Your handsomeness drew me in at first, then you made me fall for your personality in a short time… And your passion for your job made me love you even more…” Lily paused and breathed in and out as her heart beat rapidly against her chest. She couldn’t believe she was doing this. She couldn’t believe she was confessing her feelings to a man, but still, she didn’t have any regret.
“I love you with everything in me. I don’t know how long it’s going to take you to realize my feelings for you, so I thought… Why not tell him instead?” She shrugged and chuckled briefly as she threw her head back and bit her bottom lip.
“Let’s date, Miguel… I wouldn’t mind marriage later,” To Miguel, this was the smoothest confession in history. Of course, many women had come forward to confess their feelings to him in the past, but there was just something about this particular one. Maybe it was because he already had something for her, or maybe she was just unique, but there was just something about this particular confession.
He stared back at her wordlessly, his mouth hanging open with no words coming out of them. He desperately wanted to say yes to her, but he couldn’t just do it.
Silence assumed the atmosphere, and Lily was already crazily imagining things in her head while playing an intense piano in her mind, just like it’s done in these types of scenes in Kdrama. She was at least expecting him to smile and tell her that he felt the same way, and maybe a long romantic kiss to wrap things up.
“You are not a character in a Kdrama, Lily. Think straight and breathe!” She reminded herself and swallowed nothing as she waited for him to say something.
“I’m sorry, Lily… But things can’t work between us,” Those words struck her like a thunderstorm and her heart sank into her stomach. Even though she wasn’t so sure of being accepted in the first place, this rejection still hurt so badly.
“Wh… what…” She stuttered with her lips parted, pain was written all over her.
“We barely know each other, and besides, I told you before that I have a girlfriend,” He shrugged as he retracted his hand from her, and she bit her bottom lip.
“Why did you lie to her? You don’t have a girlfriend,” His subconscious mind reminded him, and again, he asked himself why he was holding back, but there was something he was still yet to figure out.
“I don’t have feelings for you, Lily… We work in the same place, and you are my brother’s wife’s friend, which makes you our in-law. That’s our relationship,” He stated clearly, and her heart wrenched painfully.
Lily stared at him, her eyes glistened with tears, but she tried hard to fight them back. There was no way she was going to cry in front of him like a pathetic bitch after rejection.
“Why exactly are you rejecting me, Miguel?” Miguel raised his eyebrows and blinked his eyes a few times when she asked him that question.
“Huh?”
“Why exactly did you reject me? Is it because we barely knew each other? Or is it because you don’t have feelings for me? Or is it because you already have a girlfriend?” She asked calmly, but Miguel just stared in silence.
She tucked her hair behind her ear and adjusted close to him. She held his hand again and rubbed them gently with her thumbs.
“If it’s because we barely know each other… There is still time for us to get to know each other, Miguel…” She paused then smiled softly, and continued, “If it’s because you have no feelings for me, trust me… You will fall deeply in love with me when we get to know each other. Trust me on that…”

“Is it your girlfriend? Well, as I said before… I have no business with your girlfriend. I’m going to chase you and won’t back down until you invite me to your wedding with that girlfriend of yours…” She paused, then tucked her hair back and smirked at him.
“Who knows… Maybe your girlfriend would be the guest at our wedding that day,” She shrugged, and Miguel’s jaw dropped to the ground. This was supposed to be crazy, but damn! It was so fucking smooth.
“I have a gift for you, by the way,” She uttered, but Miguel just blinked his eyes.
She leaned forward and claimed his lips, and his eyes narrowed in shock. They remained like that for the next thirty seconds before she finally pulled away from him and stood up.
“That was my first kiss. I have just given my heart to you. Handle it with care,” She winked at him, and his heart fluttered…
