Chapter 87
Chapter 87:
Andrew arrived, his impeccably tailored suit making him look striking as he walked through the hospital corridor. His presence seemed to fill the space with quiet authority.
“Andrew?” Madisyn was surprised.
“I’ll watch the door for you,” Andrew said, his tone calm yet protective.
Josie, furious at the sight of him siding with Madisyn, burst out, “Andrew, you’re supposed to be Kristine’s fiancé!”
Andrew’s gaze turned icy. “Shut her up.”
At his command, the bodyguard moved swiftly, knocking Josie unconscious with a quick blow. Seeing this, Kristine, lying on the hospital bed, clutched her sheets tightly in fear and confusion.
Madisyn gave Andrew a small nod before entering the room, shutting the door behind her, leaving only her and Kristine inside.
Kristine looked at Madisyn with cold disdain. “What are you trying to do? Shouldn’t you be on a plane to the competition by now? What’s the matter? Have you realized that even if you win, no one will be there to cheer for you?”
The internet was still buzzing with negative comments about Madisyn, and Kristine could sense victory. A wave of relief washed over her. This was her moment.
“Why have you done all this to me?” Madisyn asked, her eyes steady as she looked down at Kristine.
Kristine smirked. “I should be the one asking you that. If it weren’t for you, I would be competing in the international competition.”
“And what do you want, exactly?” Madisyn asked.
“What you’ve done to me, I will do to you,” Kristine’s voice brimmed with hatred. “Do I need to break a bone as well?”
“Okay, fine,” Madisyn said quietly.
Kristine scrutinized her, sensing that things were going too smoothly. Something was off.
Suddenly, Madisyn collapsed into a chair, her tone now defeated. “Kristine, you’ve truly won. Everyone blames me now. Even if I win the competition, I’ll still face public disdain. I understand that my presence has caused you pain. I just hope, after all of this, you won’t despise me anymore. Is that okay?”
The despair in Madisyn’s voice filled Kristine with a twisted satisfaction. For so long, she had felt overshadowed by Madisyn’s calm composure, but now, it seemed like Madisyn was finally breaking.
“You expect me to let you go? I’d prefer if you knelt down while talking to me,” Kristine sneered, her voice filled with arrogance.
“If I do that, will you let me go?” Madisyn asked quietly.
Kristine laughed, reveling in her power. “No, I won’t. Since you came back, you’ve stolen everything—our parents’ attention, our brothers’ affection, and even Andrew’s loyalty. Did you ever imagine you’d end up like this? You brought this upon yourself.”
Madisyn tilted her head slightly, confused. “But Kristine, even if I am to blame, you can’t participate in the competition anymore. Isn’t that your dream?”
Kristine’s expression turned cold. “It was, before you came along. Now you’re Madi, and even if I compete, I can’t beat you. I’ll just end up mocked. So, why should I bother?”
Madisyn looked genuinely taken aback. “Is that what this is all about?”
Kristine’s voice turned bitter. “What do you think? I’m not going to clear things up for you. I’ll make sure you can’t stay in this family any longer!”
Suddenly, Kristine got out of bed, but her legs gave way beneath her. She screamed, collapsing to the floor.
Her scream brought Josie rushing back to the door. “Madisyn, what’s happening? Open the door!”
Madisyn calmly opened the door, and Josie rushed inside, horrified to see Kristine on the floor.
“How could you?!” Josie shouted at Madisyn. “Kristine is in such bad shape, and you still won’t leave her alone! Are you even human?”
Madisyn’s expression remained icy. “If you have time to accuse me, you should probably help her up.”
Kristine winced as she was helped back into bed, feeling the sharp pain in her bones. She caught a glimpse of the coldness in Madisyn’s eyes and couldn’t shake the feeling that, beneath her calm exterior, Madisyn was anxious.
“Madisyn, apologize to Kristine right now!” Josie demanded.
“Apologize? I’m not the one who should be apologizing,” Madisyn scoffed, brushing off Josie’s grip as she left the room.
Andrew stood waiting for her outside. “Is it over? Are you heading to Mafelen now?”
“Yes, I’m going to take part in the competition.”
“I’ll take you to the airport,” Andrew offered.
Madisyn nodded, and they walked out together.
Back in the ward, Josie looked at Kristine with sympathy. “Your sister is truly cruel…”
Before Josie could continue, noises outside the room signaled the arrival of Elaine and Glenn.
