Chapter 18
It’s been days since the last outburst between the two, and they both avoided themselves like plaques. Sydney naturally did everything to not annoy or provoke him, seeing her straight face each day, Paxton was more pleased to see her determination, and her slacking reduced to a minimum.
“Sir, this is the file you asked me to bring?” She spoke with a straight face and a voice sharp. He raised his head,
“All done?” Surprised, she had finished this in less than an hour was intriguing.
“Let me take a look” he requested, she immediately handed it over to him, and as he read he stole glances at her,
“You know you don’t have to stand like that, this is not a military camp” He sounded caring but he was being sarcastic,
“Sorry, Sir I still have a lot of work to do but if that’s ok by you I could go back to what I was doing or I could cross-check them for errors?” She answered ignoring his words,
“Well, from what I see here, it seemed ok. You can go, have them duplicated into three places and distribute them according to the department following the meeting by Friday, Understood? He said while looking at the paperwork and then handing it over to her,
“Yes Sir,” and with that, she turned towards the door, Paxton watched her leave through the door, he missed her naive self but this was what he wanted. For her to toughen up a bit, right?
“Ah, Paxton focus and get your head straight” He rubbed his head before facing his laptop.
Outside the office photocopy, supervisor James walked in,
“Are you really in this department or you’re now Paxton’s assistant, your bag always has been here but you are never here?” She smiled,
“Well, that’s part of the work, and I have to deliver whether it’s my field or not”
“I wanted to give you a break but the Boss said no one should until he does,” she wasn’t surprised, he also had her monitor was that how much he despised her?
“I’ll see you around, try to get lunch, your bones are lurking out of you” he teased making her smile.
“Thank you, sir.” He returned the smile and left.
She had been working for a while now things have been good with no conflict. Apart from Paxton with his bossy and arrogant ways and Jaxton did not change much too, she barely see him these days, he was too busy to be mindful of her thoughts or what’s so ever.
She was used to him changing girls every week, club, and car race and Jaxton is always playful. Jaxton never took his job seriously, his office was often cleaned by the cleaners but he hardly stayed there, she wondered how it could have been to work with him, sure she would have enough time and space the way she wanted it but the Jaxton she knew would always ask for something in return.
Seated in her office, she took out a sandwich she managed to bring alone while coming to the office in the morning, she sighed tiredly, and took out a big bite, it was lunch time and this was the only time she had to herself,
Her telephone rang, no doubt it was her inconsiderate boss,
“What is it this time? She groaned in annoyance.
“To my office” he stated and then hung up on her, she collapse in her chair,
“Just kill me, Paxton White,” she said to herself, wrapping her sandwich close and leaving for his office,
In his office, he was already picking up files,
“Follow me?” He said walking out,
“Okkkk….. what’s happening?” She asked herself,
“Miss Dana is on a leave today and I have an impromptu meeting today so you are going with me to the lunch appointment with the client instead. Prepare yourself, and meet me at the parking lot.” He explained as if he had read her mind,
“Ok sir,” she rushed out to the bathroom, arranged her hair and dress, and grabbed her small iPad, Paxton had given her, the one time she had a meeting with him, she quickly prepared and left to meet up with Paxton.
He was already inside when she arrived,
“Come in,” the car was air-conditioned, and he saw she shivered a bit and then lowered it a bit, without her notice.
“That’s better” she smiled.
“Who’s this client sir?” She asked,
“Mr. Godfrey Illinois. Beware, he is very witty at times” she looked at him,
“Not as you” she mumbled
“Did you say something? He asked almost swearing he heard her say something.
” Nothing Sir” She replied almost immediately, then silence ruled again till they got to the venue
They soon got to the venue, it was a restaurant.
“Here we are,” the driver announced and put the car to a halt.
“Entering the restaurant, the waiter walked up to them,
“Mr. White?”
“Yes please,” Paxton replied as Sydney busied herself with admiring the beautiful decor.
“Come with me sor, Mr. Godfrey made some reservations and is waiting already,” he nods and leads them to the VIP section,
As soon as they got in Paxton greeted them,
“Good day to you Mr. Godfrey?” It was then Sydney got the shock of her life. The client turned out to be one of her customers when she was still working as a StripperExclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
“Holy crap!” She screamed inwardly, The man recognized Sydney a bit shocked too but hid it and turned to Paxton,
“And who’s this pretty lady behind you and not Dana?” He cooed, his eyes solely on her, she deeply hoped the man doesn’t expose her,
“This is Sydne. She would be in Miss Dana’s place today. She’s one of my employees but you have nothing to worry about” Paxton assured, he looked at her but Sydney can’t help but tremble. He had to ask.
“Are you ok? Paxton asked, she nods
“Maybe she’s frightened to see me” her eyes widened before he could complete his sentence,
“She’s good,” Paxton reassured and then whispered to her ears,
“Behave.” He would be pissed off if she ended up scaring the client off but deep inside she was of what he could tell Paxton about her.
