CHAPTER 14
DERRICK
Lara’s attitude became a cause for concern to me. I had never imagined she would do a u–turn and behave in such an insolent manner. I could not believe that after a night full of sex ind drenched in passion, that she would shun me the next morning. But I reminded myself to be calm. Perhaps she had woken up on the wrong side of bed. I decided to approach her and see if she had had a change of mannerisms. I walked into our shared room and found her laying on the bed, covered in the thick blankets. She opened her eyes when I stepped in.
“What do you want?” She asked.
I put both my hands on my hips and shifted my weight, puzzled
“What do you mean by that?” I asked, cocking my head at her. “Why have you been acting up?”
“Acting up? What does that even mean?” she said.
I knew the game she wanted to play, she wanted to feign oblivion, but I was not going to play that silly game walked slowly towards her and sat on the bed.
with her. I
“Lara, don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about,” I said, calm and collected. “This morning, you woke up and started getting dressed to leave the room, and when I questioned you, you spoke rudely. How does that make any sense,
Lara
She sat up.
“Derrick, 1 don’t know what this is, but I’m not interested,” she said, staring me right in the face. “I have not acted out of character with you. You’re being delusional.”
At her last sentence, my temper spiked, the pace of my heartbeat increased. I got on
my feet.
“Delusional? Did you just call me delusional?” I said, my voice climbing steadily in volume. Trying to play dumb won’t help. this situation, Lara. Just admit it, you have been behaving like a petulant child, and you need to fix up.
“Ohh, I need to fix up?” She said. “But you’re the one standing in front of me yelling.”
got more frustrated than angry.
I got
“Lara, what is this?” I asked. “Where did all of this come from? We had had a good time. We made love; we professed our undying love for each other, and suddenly you’re acting like the very sight of me disgusts you. Where did this shit come This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
from?
“Maybe you
should ask yourself,” she said, folding her hands and looking away.
“I made you Luna of the fucking pack, and suddenly you have become supercilious, eh?” I said. “You forgot it was I who made you Luna? Now, you wanna act like it’s nothing?”
“Ohh, please, Derrick, stop this nonsense,” she said, her voice loud.”
I turned to leave, dissatisfied, furious, but then I turned back just as I was at the door.
you to know that I can take that crown
“You know what, Lara, I should have never made you Luna,” I said to her. “And I want you from you at any fucking time.”
I said that to deter her, to weaken her spirit, but instead, she rose till she was kneeling on the bed.
“Ohh, yeah?” She spat, her voice a hot whisper. “And if you do that, I’ll tell everyone just how you murdered Nora. Fuck

around with me and fiml–out.”
I said nothing, just turned and left the room.
DIMITRI.
1 hugged her tight, pressing her body into mine. I could smell the scent from her hair and her soap, so much that I became awash with her aroma. I could tell that she was surprised; I could tell from how limp she was in my arms, how still. But 1 held on tighter, and after what seemed like a millennium, she whipped her hands around me too.
I let go slowly, and her face, as she looked at me, was a mask of surprise. I smiled at her.
“Dimitri…” She said, almost wistfully, I knew she would have loved to say more, perhaps says words drenched with affection, but words she could not bring herself to say.
“Nora,” I said, still looking into her eyes. I’m sorry, Nora. I’m sorry that I flipped like that. I’ve not been myself for a while. All of this has been too much pressure.”
She tilted her head to the side, and looked at me with such affection that I felt an ache in my heart. She cupped my face with her hands.
“I
Dimitri,” she said. “I know. And I’m sorry for how hard this has been. But everything will be all right. Eventually. I
I nodded. She pulled me into an embrace, nestling her head in my neck. After a while, I let go of her and went to my room. She walked in later and we slept laying by each other, but not a word passed between us.
The next day, after an uneventful breakfast alone, Collins came to tell me that the messenger wanted to see me.
“Now?” I asked.
“Yes, he said it’s urgent,” he said. There wss till something stiff about him. Most likely because of how I had shunned him the previous day. I wanted to apologize, but I decided to defer it to a later time.
“Send him, then,” I said to Collins and he walked away.
The messenger came in, and took a little bow before he began to deliver his message.
“Yes. What do you have for me?” I asked him, almost impatient to hear what news he had from me.
“Alpha, it’s from Derrick,” he said.
“Derrick?” I said, sitting up, my ears perking up. I had been expecting some news from him for a while. “What about Derrick?”
“Alpha, he is requesting a meeting between him and you,” the messenger said.
“I see,” I said, my face spreading in a smirk. “This is good.”
1 dismissed the messenger. I thought about how my plans were coming to shape and I stood up and began to search for
