Chapter 374
Everett's eyes darkened in an instant, and his handsome face tightened up. They'd been in a standoff for days now, and while she could ignore him all she wanted, he had tried to patch things up, and she still acted like she couldn't care less. Everett wasn't used to being treated with such indifference. He was ready to storm off, but memories of his foolish behavior from the night before softened his resolve. Making it up to his wife didn't seem like such a bad idea after all.
Everett gently turned Selena around by her shoulders, keeping a firm hold on her slender waist to stop her from slipping away. "Selena, you still care, don't you?"
Last night, she'd called him out, and in his anger, he hadn't bothered to explain himself and had said things he shouldn't have. Their fight had left him stewing, and harsh words were exchanged. But thinking it over, maybe her anger meant she still cared, right?
So even though Everett phrased it as a question, his tone was sure, and deep down, he felt a flicker of joy. She still had feelings for him!
Selena didn't know what was going through his head, nor did she want to. His actions had worn down all her love and affection for him.
Care? A cold smirk tugged at her lips, too aloof to even dignify him with an answer.
Feeling a bit more at ease, Everett decided to open up. He brushed his large hand over her soft, fair cheek and, with sincerity in his eyes, began to explain. "Last night, Jaime threw a party. You know how he is inviting all sorts of random people. But I didn't lay a finger on any of them. You're the only one for me!"novelbin
He had high standards and was picky. Plus, having grown used to the charm of his own wife, how could he be tempted by anyone else?
"I had a few too many drinks, and some woman tried to cozy up, but I pushed her away before even getting a good look at her."
Selena's dark eyes held his, unblinking.
They stood there, locked in a silent stare.
"Selena, about last night... let's just forget those words," Everett sighed gently. "I won't say things like that again, okay?"
Everett's voice was low and

Selena felt a slight ripple in her heart, but it disappeared quickly. She couldn't forget where she stood.or the true root of their issues, which had nothing to do with other women. en
After more than three years of marriage, she had gotten to know this man's ways. He felt a tad guilty for his roughness the previous night. If she didn't accept his apology and kept pushing, he'd turn cold again.
Without love, there was no endless patience.
Besides, making a scene wouldn't help her; it would only anger Everett further, and who knew what he'd do if pushed too far?
So, for now, she had to play it smart, seizing the moment to negotiate something that worked in her favor.
