Chapter 44
A sense of unease clung to me as my wolf churned within my chest, its restlessness mirroring my own. It felt like my head was about to explode worrying about what could possible be wrong with her. I couldn’t seem to get myself to calm down.
I had been threatened a lot of times, I’ve had packs threaten to wage war on my kingdom, I’ve had life almost slip away from times without number but not once was I as restless as I was in this very moment. I felt like doing too much was not the best solution but doing too little was impossible! My heart was working overtime and I had this terrible feeling that doom was looming and if I didn’t act fast, I wouldn’t know how to get rid of it.
It was a sensation I had never experienced before, as if the beast within was on the verge of bursting through my skin. Driven by an instinct I couldn’t understand and I had never experienced before in my life, I urged my guard to follow the invisible thread guiding me towards an unknown destination. He kept looking back to be sure if he was getting the orders from me and honestly, I didn’t blame him, even I didn’t understand what part of me the orders I was barking were coming from. It felt as though I were possessed.
I couldn’t explain it, but I couldn’t disobey it either. I have too much too loose. Kira is too much too loose!
Everywhere Wils dark, it was hard to see anything. The headlights of the car were all we had and it could only see so far, we could drive into a ditch for all we knew but that didn’t make me want to go any slower. The driver was scared for his life but he knew that going against my words were going to be the same as dying so he took his chances.
I kept giving him directions even though I had no idea where we were, it felt as though I knew exactly where I was going.
At last, we arrived at an open clearing, a place that held no significance to me car, the cold night air washed over me, heightening my senses.
at least, not until now. As I stepped out of the
The anxiety coursing through my veins intensified as I scanned the area, desperate to understand what had drawn me to this abandoned spot that looked like no one had visited in years. I didn’t even know if I was in the right place or what I expected to see here. The guard was more confused than I was and I was about to loose my f***g mind!
I was about to give up when suddenly, a panicked scream pierced the night, shattering the silence and sending a shiver down my spine. The voice was undeniably Kira’s, the sound of her voice igniting a guttural fury within me. I was so close to wolling out, my wolf clawing at my chest violently. She was in pain, I could almost feel it just from the sound of her voice.
“Is that who I think it is? Is that Kira?!” my guard shrieked and I was annoyed that he could tell that it was her just by the sound of her voice but we could deal with that later, I needed to save Kira first. I needed to get her out of whatever she was in, she was close I could feel it.
As my guard and I raced toward the source of the screams in the thick darkness, barely even seeing anything. I steeled myself for whatever horror awaited us. I was more than ready to pounce on whoever needed to be pounced on. I used my wolf vision to channel through the woods making turns like I knew the woods like the back of my palms,
The guard followed my every turn, panting heavily behind me. I would have commended his loyalty but I knew that it was nothing but the fear that he felt for me. He was terrified of the things that I could do to him and head right to be.
Rounding a corner, my eyes fell upon a scene that sent a cold rage surging through my body. Kira lay on the ground, her clothes torn and dishevelled as two bastards held her down. A third hovered over her, a cruel grin stretching across his face as he prepared to do things that I didn’t presume were good to her judging by the look on his face and that way he was rubbing his palms together wickedly. A small crowd of onlookers, two of whom I recognized as palace maids, stood idly by, their expressions betraying their innocence.
“What is the meaning of this?! What the hell do you lots think you’re doing?!” I growled louder than I’d ever growled in entire life. The sound of my voice scaring all the birds in the woods off and getting the attention of the men that I intended to not spare.
The bastards and their assistants froze, the colour draining from their faces as they turned to face me. They started to inch back slowly trying to escape but my guard was smarter than letting them get their way.
Where the hell do you think you’re going?! How dare you bastards try to escape after that stupid stunt that you pulled? I watched as tye guard single-handedly and very brazenly I had to add started to o take them down one after the other. The maids were not left out. He put them in their place and showed then who was boss.
He was my guard for a reason after all, the bastards were all down on the floor after he threw a few punches and he paused to etch his breath, one of them tried to escape and a really hard kick sent him flying and crashing hard against the ground.
my guard moved swiftly to block any escape, my eyes found their way to Kira’s tear-streaked face. Her shirt was torn, her body trembling as she clung to the pieces of what was left of her clothes in a desperate attempt to regain what was left of her ignity: The sight of her suffering brought out an unfamiliar sensation in my chest, a deep ache that I couldn’t quite dentity. In that moment, I realized that I despised watching her ery.
usually didn’t care what was wrong with her but now seeing her cry was making my heart churn in pain? What the hell was wrong with me?
Forcing my face into a stony mask, I reached out to help Kira to her feet. She couldn’t look up at me, she was too ashamed and the fact that she had to feel shame for what those bastards did made me really mad, her fingers fumbling with her shredded shirt as she struggled to hold it together. As I opened my mouth to ask if she was alright, I snapped it shut again.
She was obviously not okay and I didn’t even know the words to use that won’t make her feel even worse about what just happened. It felt stupid to ask her if he was fine when I could clearly see that she wasn’t.
“How the hell did you get here? What happened? Did you try to escape and get caught by this men?” I bombarded her with questions even though all I wanted to do was hug until she calmed down enough to fall asleep in my arms the way she did when we made love.
She tried to speak up but her voice got caught in her throat. She choked on her own sobs and I fought hard the urge to wipe her face with my thumb and bring her face close to my chest.
upped her chin up so she was looking up at me, her face was wet and her eyes bloodshot. I struggled to find the words to ay when a sudden, intoxicating scent washed over me, nearly causing my knees to loosen all the strength in them. They instantly felt like noodles.
The aroma was undeniably Kira’s, yet amplified in a way that I couldn’t understand. This felt familiar and I was terrified for knew was about to happen and all the same so excited.
aiched as her eyes widened, her nostrils flaring as she, too, seemed to detect the unfamiliar scent in the air. Her gaze jacked onto mine, and I felt the earth shift beneath my feet as a weird connection, powerful and impossible to mistake, cackled between us. My heart thundered as though power surged through it. Both our arms were covered in goose bumpsBelongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
the cold night air of the thick woods we were in had nothing to do with it.
my wolf howled in recognition, I uttered a single, life-altering word: “Mate.”
